Connect WhatsApp

Let your Stand send WhatsApp messages, read your chats, and search past conversations. Setup is one copy-paste to your agent — it installs what it needs and walks you through a QR pairing, the same as setting up WhatsApp Web.

Important caveat. Your Stand connects to WhatsApp the same way WhatsApp Web does — by pairing as a linked device on your phone. Meta's terms of service permit WhatsApp Web for personal use, but using a non-Meta client to drive your account is at your discretion. The connection lives entirely on your Mac and the messages travel through Meta's servers exactly as they do for WhatsApp Web — no third-party relay.

Before you start

  • WhatsApp installed and active on your phone (the QR scan needs the phone to be reachable).
  • AG2 Space installed and signed in from desktop.ag2.space.

Set it up — paste this to your agent

Open AG2 Space, start a chat with your agent, and paste this. It works through the whole setup with you — installing the WhatsApp tool if needed, showing you the QR code to scan, and verifying the pairing:

Set me up with WhatsApp so you can read and send messages for me.

Work through this in order and tell me what you find at each step:

1. Check whether WhatsApp is already working: run `wacli chats list --limit 1`.
If it succeeds, I'm already paired - skip to step 5.

2. If `wacli` isn't installed, check for Homebrew with `which brew`.
   - If Homebrew is missing, give me the one-line install command from
brew.sh and stop there until I've run it.
   - If Homebrew is present, run `brew install steipete/tap/wacli`, then
     confirm with `which wacli`.

3. Run `wacli auth`. It prints a QR code as ASCII art. Show it to me in a
fenced code block so it renders in monospace. If it doesn't come through
readably, take a screenshot of the terminal, or tell me to run
   `wacli auth` myself in Terminal.

4. Wait for me. I'll scan it on my phone: WhatsApp -> Linked Devices ->
Link a Device. Tell me when the pairing is confirmed.

5. Verify by running `wacli chats list --limit 3` and show me the result.

Don't send any WhatsApp message during setup. Once I'm paired, always
confirm the recipient and the exact text with me before sending anything.

When the QR code appears, scan it from your phone: open WhatsApp → Linked DevicesLink a Device (iPhone: under Settings; Android: under the three-dot menu). Your agent confirms once the pairing lands and shows you your latest chats as proof.

Try it

Voice or text:

  • "What's the last message Jane sent me on WhatsApp?"
  • "Send Bob on WhatsApp: running 10 min late, sorry."
  • "Search WhatsApp for the address Mom sent me."

Your agent always confirms message content before sending. Your messages remain end-to-end encrypted between your phone and the recipient — it's just another linked device on your account.

Common snags

  • "My phone needs to be online for it to work." Mostly false on recent WhatsApp versions — linked devices typically work for a few weeks even if your phone is offline, then re-pair when the phone comes back. If you don't open WhatsApp on your phone for ~14 days, the link expires.
  • "Old messages don't show up." WhatsApp Web only syncs the last few months of history; older messages stay on your phone.
  • "It was working and now it says not connected." The link probably expired. Ask your agent to run wacli auth again and scan the fresh QR code.

That's it

Your Stand can now send and read WhatsApp on your behalf. Back to the docs index.
